Thursday, October 30 Block Style Letter

Note: Students who have not finished Microtype Numeric Keypad must finish today and get their fingers graded during the skill building part of class.

Next, complete the typing of the Block Style Business Letter you started yesterday.

Finally, once you complet the letter go to Microtype and warmup for 4 minutes on the game and then take two, 2 minute timed writes on TW27, page 23. Raise your hand when you have completed the timings so you can share your results.

Assignment:
Record the 7 parts of the business letter on your printout of the letter.

Wed. October 29 Finish Numeric Keypad and Learning to Type a Letter

All students who have not finished Numeric Keypad Lessons 1-4 are to work on the lessons. Mrs. Herndon will grade your finger reaches when you let her know that you have completed all 4 lessons.

Students having finished and have been graded on the Numeric Keypad Lessons are to work in Micropace: Game and then two, 2 minute timed writes on TW27, page 23. Have Mrs. Herndon check your Microtype tasks on the main menu when you finish your Micropace tasks.

Letter Unit (handout):
Learn to format a professional letter which is a written form of communication to individuals outside your place of work. Compare the letter to the memorandum, that is for the purpose of communicating to individuals within your place of work.

  5. Center the column headings: Web Address (URL), Etiquette Rule 1, Etiquette Rule 2, Etiquette Rule 3, Etiquette Rule 4

Wed Oct 1 Learning the apostrophe, hyphen, quotes

Incoming Activity:
Warmup for 15 minutes: IT201 and IT 203 will be using the books form IT201 today.
Turn to page 203 and type each line 1x after reading the following:
  • the reach to the apostrophe(') is with the ";" finger straight to the key to its right. Spacing rule: There is no space before or after an apostrophe unless the apostrophe is the last character in the word, then space 1 time. Examples: May's house; it's; isn't; Herndons' family reunion
  • the reach for the hyphen is ";" up to the hyphen (-). Spacing rule: there is no space before or after a hyphen in a hyphenated word. Example: well-dressed models
  • the reach for the quotes is ";" finger straight over to the " " key using your left shift key to make the quote. Spacing rule: there is one space before the left quote, no space after; no space before the right quote. Example: Mrs. Herndon said, "Sit up straight in your chairs."

After the warmup, record the above three rules for the apostrophe, hyphen, and quotes in your notebook (Spacing Rules)

Assignment: Word document: turn to page 28 in today's text and do the composing Activity 4. Save the text as page 28, Activity 4. Directions: Key each line double spaced. In place of the blank line at the end of each sentence, key the word(s) that correctly complete(s) the sentence and use correctly either the word a or the word an before the blank line that is used in some of the sentences. Save your completed assigment for later grading.

Microtype:

Go to Lesson A of the Red Section and complete as much of the section as time allows. There are timings on Block Style paragraphs as well as on lines of sentences. Keep your eyes on the copy!
